Dr. Chung Saved My Tooth
“My tooth cracked, I was so afraid that I would need to have a root canal with a crown, or even resort to having the tooth pulled. I called Springwater Dental, explained the situation and they got me in that very day. Dr. Chung took a look at the tooth, I explained that I really wanted to save the tooth and he gave me my options. I choose to keep my tooth and have him repair it with porcelain. It has been about six months and I have not had one problem or issue with it, no pain thanks to his sedation techniques. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.”
What Happens After an Extraction?
After an extraction, the gums in the area the extraction took place may become swollen and bleed. Dr. Chung recommends that the patient rinse their mouth with salt water to remove any bacteria or blood that could collect in the socket. When the blood clot that formed after the removal of the tooth dislodges it causes a condition called ‘dry socket’ which exposes the underlying nerves and bone and may lead to severe pain and possible infection. It is suggested that along with regular mouth rinsing the patient should wash out their mouth after eating, no sucking (even on straws) and refrain from any tobacco or alcohol. Also, do not brush near the affected site. With Dr. Chung’s care and consideration, patients can be ready to handle tooth replacements, dental or tooth implants or other options down the road to restore their beautiful smile. We also have Sedation Dentistry. Call for an appointment in Portland for any teeth removal needs. (503) 902-6604
What to Expect With a Tooth Extraction in Portland
Dr. Chung is a trained professional in sedation therapy and he will choose the best anesthetic option that is just right for you. He will then administer this anesthetic to numb the area and reduce or eliminate discomfort. During the procedure or extraction process you will feel the pressure of a tooth being removed (unless you have chosen to be fully sedated for the procedure), but there will be no pain associated with it. With Dr. Chung’s experience he is able to have the tooth removed in a matter of minutes. Immediately after the tooth extraction at the removal site will be a minimal amount of blood which is completely normal. A gauze pad will be placed at the site and you will be asked to bite down on it for approximately 15 minutes (this may need to be repeated until the bleeding stops) which will form the blood clot protecting you from ‘dry socket’. The site may bleed a little for up to 24 hours, do not worry; it is normal and will taper off and stop. Dr. Chung will also give you post-procedure steps to follow for your optimal healing. After You Pull A Tooth What Are The Options?
With today’s updated technology there are many options after tooth extractions: dentures, partial dentures, dental bridges, and implants to name a few. Research shows that when a tooth is extracted there is a higher chance of bone loss where the extraction took place. Research has also shown that this bone loss is greatly reduced when restored by a dental or tooth implant. When the titanium peg is screwed into the bone osseointegration takes place and your bone actually fuses with the peg making it solid and complete. When that process has taken place a new tooth that has been specially designed for you with color, shape and size will be fitted to the peg leaving you with a perfectly normal set of beautiful looking teeth. The Springwater Dental team is trained and experienced to help you restore your smile after an extraction using sedation dentistry in Portland. Call for information or an appointment (503) 902-6604.
Most of the Time It Can Be fixed
Tooth extractions are performed for a variety of reasons, the most common ones are tooth decay that has been forgotten, an abscessed tooth or there has been severe damage to a tooth from an accident. Dr. Chung at Springwater Dental will most often fix damaged teeth with crowns or other forms of dental reconstruction, but in a few instances the tooth is beyond repair and extraction is the only feasible solution. You do not need to be concerned when it comes to Dr. Chung, he is understanding with a great amount of quality experience in all forms of dental care including sedation dentistry and urgent dentistry.
